Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 09/2024
The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 61,645 people in September 2024, a figure that represents an increase of 1.7% compared to the same month in the previous year, to stand at 3,607,035 people according to provisional data. The number of contributors increased in all counties except El Lluçanès, which registered the highest fall (−1.7%), L'Alta Ribagorça, La Terra Alta, El Priorat and L'Alt Urgell. The largest increase was in El Gironès at 2.7%.
In relation to August, the number of contributors rose in Catalonia as a whole by 475 people although it was down in 29 counties and Aran. The biggest increases were in El Vallès Occidental (1.7%) and El Vallès Oriental (1.4%).
By sex and compared to a year ago, in Catalonia as a whole the number of women Social Security contributors increased by 30,715 and the number of men by 30,930. This represents year-over-year increases of 1.8% and 1.6%, respectively.
In Catalonia as a whole, all age groups increased their number of contributors compared with a year ago, except for the 30 to 44 age group which decreased by 0.6%. Contributors aged 55 and over increased the most (4.4%) and did so in 39 counties and Aran, with the main rises in El Baix Llobregat (5.7%) and El Vallès Oriental (5.6%).
Foreign national contributors rose in Catalonia as a whole by 6.4% compared to the same month in the previous year and were up in all counties except for El Priorat (−2.0%). Spanish national contributors rose by 0.8% in Catalonia as a whole and also in 29 counties.
Affiliations in the services sector increased by 2.0% year-over-year, the highest increase of all sectors and up throughout the territory except in El Lluçanès and L’Alta Ribagorça. Affiliations in industry rose by 0.8% in Catalonia as a whole and were higher in 26 counties. The increase in construction was 1.1% and it grew in 20 counties and Aran. Agriculture registered 15 fewer affiliations than a year ago.
By type of working day, 19.1% of employee affiliations in September were part-time. In the case of women, the proportion was 26.0%, more than double the figure for men (12.3%).
With regard to temporary contracts, the proportion of Social Security affiliations for temporary employees stood at 10.4%, 1.4 percentage points less than a year ago. The county with the highest level of temporary employment was La Ribera d’Ebre (15.6%) while El Baix Empordà and L’Alt Empordà had the lowest levels (7.5% each).
