Governing Council of the Statistical System of Catalonia

The Governing Council of the Statistical System of Catalonia is the representative and participatory body for the entities and institutions that make up the Statistical System of Catalonia.

The Governing Council of the Statistical System of Catalonia is chaired by the Catalan Minister responsible for economic policy and is made up of the following members:/p>

  • The President, who is the Catalan Minister responsible for economic policy.
  • Two Vice-Presidents, who are the Secretary General of the Catalan Ministry responsible for economic policy and the head of the management unit of the Catalan Ministry to which Idescat is attached.
  • The Director of Idescat, who serves as Secretary of the Council.
  • One representative of each of the Ministries of the Government of Catalonia, appointed by the respective Catalan Minister, coinciding with the senior official responsible for the statistical competence within each Ministry.
  • Two representatives of the county councils, one representing those counties with 75,000 inhabitants and over and the other, the rest of the counties.
  • One representative of each of the provincial councils of Barcelona, Girona, Lleida and Tarragona.
  • One representative of Barcelona City Council.
  • One representative of Catalan city councils with more than 50,000 inhabitants.
  • One representative of Catalan city councils with fewer than 50,000 inhabitants.
  • One representative of the official chambers of commerce.
  • One representative of the public law entities that participate in the Statistical System of Catalonia.

The Governing Council of the Statistical System of Catalonia has the following functions:

  • Approving the relevant proposals on statistical activities for the preparation of the project for the Statistical Plan for Catalonia.
  • Approving the proposal for the Annual Statistical Action Programme, which the Catalan Minister responsible for economic policy must submit to the Government of Catalonia for its approval.
  • Being informed of the rules that must govern statistics declared of interest to the Government of Catalonia and the technical characteristics they must have.
  • Making proposals regarding statistical activities affecting the territorial scope of Catalonia.
  • In general, those submitted to it by the President.
