Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 07/2024

The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 89,025 people in July 2024, which represents an increase of 2.5% compared to the same month of the previous year and stands at 3,629,255 people, according to provisional data. Contributors increased in 39 counties and Aran, among which El Gironès stands out, with an increase of 3.7%, and L'Alt Empordà, La Garrotxa and La Selva, with a 2.8% each. On the other hand, the number of contributors remained stable in El Priorat and La Terra Alta and decreased in El Lluçanès (−1.2%).

In relation to June, the number of contributors decreased in Catalonia as a whole by 28,830 people (a 0.8%), and it has also done so in 23 counties, led by L'Alt Penedès (−1.7%) and El Priorat and El Vallès Occidental (−1.5%, both).

By sex and compared to a year ago, in Catalonia as a whole, the number of women contributors to Social Security increased by 43,950 and that of men by 45,075, which represents year-over-year increases of 2.7% and 2.4%, respectively.

In Catalonia as a whole, all age groups have increased the number of contributors compared to a year ago. Contributors aged 55 or over are that have increased the most in Catalonia as a whole (5.2%), followed by those under 30 (4.6%).

Contributors of foreign nationality increased in Catalonia as a whole by 7.1% compared to the same month of the previous year, and did so in all counties. Contributors of Spanish nationality increased by 1.5% in Catalonia as a whole and also in 35 counties.

Affiliations in the services sector have increased by 2.9% year-over-year, the largest increase of all sectors, and have grown throughout the territory, except in El Lluçanès. In the industry, affiliations have increased by 1.8% in Catalonia as a whole, and they have also done so in 35 counties. In the case of construction, the increase was 1.3%, and it has grown in 21 counties and Aran. Agriculture has registred a decrease of 0.1% in affiliations, which represents 75 affiliations less than a year ago.

By type of working day, 19.2% of employee affiliations in July were part-time. In the case of women, the proportion is 26.5%, more than double than that of men (12.3%).

With regard to temporary contracts, the proportion of Social Security affiliations for temporary employees stood at 11.8%, 1 percentage point less than a year before. The county with the highest level of temporary contracts was La Ribera d'Ebre (17.7%), and those with the lowest levels were El Baix Empordà (8.7%) and L'Alt Empordà (9.0%).
