Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 06/2024

The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 111,620 people in June 2024, which represents an increase of 3.1% compared to the same month of the previous year and stood at 3,658,085 people, according to provisional data. Contributors increased in all counties, with the exception of El Lluçanès (−9.9%) and La Segarra (−4.4%), due to Biosca, Torà and Sant Feliu Sasserra having changed county. The main increases were in El Solsonès (affected by the new county division), where contributors increased by 12.2%, El Gironès (4.3%) and El Montsià (3.5%).

In relation to May, the number of contributors increased in Catalonia as a whole by 38,005 people (1.0%). The number of contributors increased in all counties, except in La Ribera d'Ebre, where it remained almost stable (−0.4%). The highest increases are those of Aran (8.4%) and L'Alta Ribagorça (7.4%).

By sex and compared to a year ago, in Catalonia as a whole, the number of women affiliated with Social Security increased by 57,185 and that of men by 54,440, which represents year-over-year increases of 3.4% and 2.9%, respectively.

In Catalonia as a whole, all age groups increased the number of contributors compared to a year ago. Contributors aged 55 and over are the ones that increased the most in Catalonia as a whole (5.8%), followed by those under 30 (5.4%).

Contributors of foreign nationality increased in Catalonia as a whole by 7.8% compared to the same month of the previous year, and they did so in all counties except in El Lluçanès (−4.9%). Contributors of Spanish nationality increased by 2.2% in Catalonia as a whole and decreased in 2 counties.

Affiliations in the services sector increased increased by 3.7% year-over-year, the largest increase of all sectors, and grew throughout the territory, except in 2 counties. In the industry, affiliations increased by 1.6% in Catalonia as a whole, and they also did so in 33 counties. In the case of construction, the increase was 1.8%, and it grew in 27 counties and Aran. Agriculture also increased its affiliations, by 0.3%.

By type of working day, 19.4% of employee affiliations in June were part-time. In the case of women, the proportion is 26.6%, more than double that of men (12.5%).

With regard to temporary contracts, the proportion of Social Security affiliations for temporary employees stood at 12.0%, 0.8 percentage points less than a year before. The county with the highest level of temporary contracts is La Ribera d'Ebre (17.6%), and those with the lowest levels are El Baix Empordà (8.6%) and L'Alt Empordà (8.8%).
