Methodological note

Methodological aspects

Natural movement provides regular information on basic demographic flows such as births, deaths and marriages in order to assess the population development and trends.

The source of the statistics on the natural population movement is the declarations made when registering a birth, marriage or death in the Civil Registry, which also requires a statistical bulletin to be filled out on the event. The figures presented refer exclusively to the registrations made in Catalonia by people living there, and these statistics are conducted through a cooperation agreement with the INE.

The Statistical Institute of Catalonia (Idescat) offers information in relation to the names of babies born in Catalonia. This information is similar to that provided by other statistical institutes in Europe, which include the Belgium's National Institute of Statistics, Norway?s National Statistics Institute, and the Spanish National Statistics Institute (INE).

You can get more information about these statistics in the methodology.
