PROJ Population Projections

The purpose of the Population Projections is to evaluate future population figures of Catalonia, broken down by sex, age and territorial distribution. The Projections are based on the Population Census, to which hypotheses regarding the future evolution of fertility, mortality and migration are applied.

The Population Projections are updated approximately every five years and provide data by sex and age each year. In terms of territory, they provide results for Catalonia, the areas of the territorial Plan, the provinces, the counties and Aran. Starting from the base 2024 the results for municipalities are also included.

Every five years Idescat produces a set of statistics which are categorised as Population Projections, in accordance with different hypotheses based on demographic information. Idescat firstly updates the Population Projections by sex and age, and then, the Household Projections and the Active Population Projections.
