The Retail Trade Index is an indicator that measures the monthly evolution of the activity of companies in the retail trade sector in Catalonia through the turnover variable.
Idescat calculates the general retail trade index and the general index excluding service stations. The latter is disaggregated by type of product according to the company's activity, and calculates the indices for Catalonia for food products and for the rest of products. All indices are calculated both at current prices and at constant prices.
In addition, Idescat publishes the calendar adjusted Retail Trade Index and the calendar and seasonally adjusted index, which makes it possible to calculate rates of change between months of homogeneous duration and composition and without seasonal fluctuations. The adjustment is carried out for all the series offered.
The primary source of information is the monthly continuous survey of the Retail Trade Indices statistic, carried out by the INE.
