The general objective of the Survey on disability, personal autonomy and dependency situations 2008 (EDAD2008) is to cater for the demand for information to guide the promotion of personal autonomy and the prevention of dependency situations among people in our society.
The specific objectives of these statistics are to research the number, characteristics and situations of people with disabilities.
This statistical operation is based on the experience of the previous Survey on disability, deficiencies and state of health (conducted in 1999), but adapted to current social and demographic conditions and in accordance with the philosophy of the new International classification of functioning, disability and health (ICF).
The EDAD2008 presents an extension of the results for Catalonia based on an exploitation of the survey of the same name made by the INE.
Idescat is publishing results on the number of people with disabilities residing in family homes in Catalonia, the characteristics of these people, and also of their disabilities and the deficiencies these have caused, as well as these peoples' relations with the labour market and education, and social, health and economic benefits.
EDAD2008 has researched centres for the first time using a specific questionnaire. It has researched old people's homes, centres for the disabled and long-stay geriatric and psychiatric hospitals. The aims of this research focused on two points: estimating the number of people that reside in collective establishments, their characteristics and disabilities and to find out the main characteristics of these centres, and also the services that they provide.
EDAD2008 presents statistics on the population with a disability that receives personal assistance from carers and the social and demographic characteristics of the carers, the family relationship with the disabled person or the hours of dedication, as well as the most important care received by disabled people and other related subject areas.
