Structural Business Statistics in the Service Sector. 2024

The turnover generated by non-financial market service companies in Catalonia stood at 373,033 million euros in 2024, an increase of 5.8% compared with the previous year. In the same period, the number of employees in companies in this sector accounted to 2,281,443, an increase of 3.2%, and the value added at factor cost amounted for 115,063 million euros, an increase of 10.7% compared with the previous year.

The Wholesale trade sector generated the highest turnover (127,256 million euros, a decrease of 0.8% compared with a year ago) and the highest added value (18,679 million euros, 7.8% higher than the previous year). The sector Administrative and support service activities employed the highest number of people (332,474 employees, an increase of 3.2%), and the sector Professional, scientific and technical activities had the highest number of companies, 90,014, an increase of 0.3% compared with the previous year.

It should also be noted that the Retail trade sector ranked second in both turnover (56,909 million euros) and number of employees (308,553 persons).

The Education sector experienced the highest year-over-year growth in turnover (18.4%), with 4,673 million euros.

Apparent labour productivity per employee in the service sector stood at 50,434 euros (7.3% higher than the previous year).
