Annual Economic Accounts for Catalonia. 2024

(In Catalan)In 2024 Catalonia’s gross domestic product (GDP) reached 316,728 million euros, representing an annual growth in volume of 3.6%.
From the perspective of demand, internal demand grew by 3.8%, one point and eight tenths higher than the previous year (2.0%), due to the increase in the three components: household consumer expenditure (3.5%), final consumption expenditure by government (5.3 %) and gross capital formation (3.2%). Regarding external trade, total exports increased by 1.8%, which is mainly due to the increase in foreign tourism (11.0%) and the increase in exports of goods and services (0.4%). On the other side, total imports increased by 2.7%, due to the increase in the consumption by inhabitants residing abroad (11.8%) and the increase in imports of goods and services.
From the perspective of supply, all branches of activity registered positive growths, but services sector stood out with an annual variation rate of 4.1%. Industry grew by 3.9%, construction by 1.7% and agriculture by 4.2%.
Idescat presents the annual estimates of the main economic aggregates for the period 2000−2024. GDP information from a supply perspective is disaggregated by 44 branches of activity for the period 2000−2022 and by 10 branches in 2023 and 2024. These latest estimates are mainly made with short-term information.
Idescat has implemented the 2024 Benchmark Revision to the series of the Annual Economic Accounts and the Quarterly Accounts for Catalonia, in compliance with the international recommendations in the European area. This Benchmark Revision replaces the previous 2019 Benchmark Revision.
