Labour market statistics on people with disabilities. 2023

The number of employed persons with a legally recognised disability was 102,800 in 2023, an increase of 11.3% over the previous year, while the rest of employed persons increased by 3.7%.

The employment rate of people with a disability was 30.5% in 2023, an increase of 2 points compared to the previous year and 43.4 points lower than the rate for the rest of people (73.9%).

The unemployment rate for people with disabilities was 17.8% (the same rate as in 2022 and 8.7 points higher than the rate for the rest of people). The number of unemployed persons with disabilities was 22,300 and increased by 11.5% in 2023, while the number of other unemployed people fell by 4.3%.

The activity rate of people with a legally recognised disability was 37.1% in 2023 in Catalonia, 2.4 points lower than in 2022 and 44.2 points lower than the activity rate for the rest of people (81.3%). The number of active people with disabilities was 125,000 and increased by 11.2% compared to a year ago while the rest of active people also rose (2.9%).

By sex, the presence of men in the active population with disabilities was higher than in the rest of the active population (55.0% and 52.5%, respectively). Regarding the activity rate, the rate of women with disabilities was 3.2 points lower than that of men, while the difference between sexes in the activity rate for the rest of people was 7.6 points.

By age, the activity rate of people with disabilities decreased with age, from 47.5% in the 16-44 age group to 32.9% in the 45-64 age group.

In relation to the characteristics of the employment, 92.4% of the employed population with disabilities aged 16 to 64 were employees and, of these, 86.8% had an indefinite contract. On the other hand, 84.9% of the employed population with disabilities worked full time and 78.7% worked in the service sector.
