Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 08/2024

The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 114,285 people in August 2024, which represents an increase of 3.3% compared to the same month of the previous year and stood at 3,606,560 people, according to provisional data. The number of contributors increased in all counties except in El Lluçanès, where it decreased by 1.0%. The highest increases were found in El Pallars Sobirà (7.2%) and L'Alt Empordà (6.0%).

In relation to July, the number of contributors decreased in Catalonia as a whole by 22,695 people, 0.6%, and also decreased in 37 counties, led by El Montsià (−1.8%) and El Segrià (−1.7%).

By sex and compared to a year ago, in Catalonia as a whole, the number of women contributors to Social Security increased by 58,850 and that of men by 55,435, which represents year-over-year increases of 3.6 % and 3.0%, respectively.

In Catalonia as a whole, all age groups saw an increase in the number of contributors compared to a year ago. Contributors under 30 years of age seen the greatest increase in Catalonia as a whole (7.1%) and the counties where the number of younger contributors increased the most were El Pallars Sobirà (32.0%) and L'Alta Ribagorça (22.6%).

Contributors of foreign nationality increased in Catalonia as a whole by 7.9% compared to the same month last year and did so in all counties except El Priorat (−1.0%) and El Moianès (−0.7%). The number of Spanish contributors increased by 2.3% in Catalonia as a whole and also in all counties, except El Lluçanès (−1.5%) and La Conca de Barberà (0.0%).

Affiliations in the services sector increased by 4.0% year-over-year, the largest increase of all sectors, and grew throughout the territory, except in El Lluçanès. In industry, affiliations increased by 1.6% in Catalonia as a whole and also did so in 33 counties. In the case of construction, the increase was 2.0% and it grew in 27 counties and Aran. Agriculture registered a decrease of 0.3%, which represents 155 fewer affiliations than a year ago.

By type of working day, 19.2% of employee affiliations in August were part-time. In the case of women, the proportion was 26.4%, more than double than that of men (12.3%).

With regard to temporary contracts, the proportion of Social Security affiliations for temporary employees stood at 11.6%, 0.4 percentage points less than a year before. The county with the highest level of temporary employment was L'Alta Ribagorça (17.7%) and the one with the lowest level was El Baix Empordà (8.5%).
