Structural Business Statistics in the Service Sector. 2022

The turnover generated by companies in Catalonia's non-financial market services sector was 332,429 million euros in 2022, an increase of 18.3% compared with the previous year. In the same period, the number of people employed by companies in the sector rose by 4.6%, and the gross added value at factor cost, by 13.7%.

The wholesale trade sector generated the highest turnover (124,093 million euros, an increase of 18.6% compared to last year) and the highest added value (16,669 million euros, 9.0% more than the previous year). The retail trade sector employed the most people (297,240 employees, an increase of 1.0%), and the professional, scientific and technical activities sector had the most companies, 90.663, similar to the year before (90.661 companies).

It should also be noted that the retail trade sector ranks second in terms of both turnover (50,209 million euros) and the number of companies (73.024).

The accommodation and food service activitie sector experienced the most significant year-over-year growth in employment (11.6%), employing 264,664 people.

Apparent productivity per worker in the services sector stood at 43,512 euros (8,7% less than the previous year).
