Structural Business Statistics in the Industrial Sector. 2022

In 2022, the turnover of industrial companies in Catalonia was 187,991 million euros, which means an increase of 20.9% compared to one year previously. In the same period, the number of people employed in companies in this sector was 494,087 (a fall of 0.7%) and the gross value added at factor cost stood at 38,920 million euros (a rise of 8.3%).

The industrial groupings that stood out for their turnover and share in total industry were the industries of food products, with 34,147 million euros (18.2% of total industry); electricity and gas production and supply, with 26,777 million euros (14.2% of the total), and the chemical industries, with 25,194 million euros (13.4% of the total). The industrial grouping with the highest year-over-year increase in turnover compared to the previous year was electricity and gas production and supply (62.7%), which is accounted for by the evolution of prices in the period analysed, followed by the extraction industries and oil refining grouping (40.7%).

In terms of the geographical destination of sales, 33.0% of the sector’s sales went abroad (20.7% to European Union countries and 12.3% to the rest of the world). The most outstanding groupings in terms of sales abroad were the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (with 17.5% of total industrial sales abroad); the chemical industries (with 16.5%), and the industries of food products (with 15.6%).

All these magnitudes place the apparent productivity per employee in the industrial sector at 78,771 euros (9.0% more than the previous year).
