All counties increased their GDP per inhabitant in 2021, except Les Garrigues and Aran, both territories with a decrease of 2.7%. La Ribera d’Ebre (49.5%) and La Terra Alta (23.9%) are the regions with the highest growth rates.

La Ribera d'Ebre continues to be the county with the highest GDP per inhabitant (62,400 euros), followed by El Barcelonès (38,600 euros), which are respectively 97.6% and 22.2% above the Catalan average (31,600 euros). At the other extreme, three counties have a GDP per inhabitant of less than 20,000 euros: El Garraf (19,400 euros), El Priorat (18,900 euros) and El Baix Penedès (17,500 euros).

By sectors, the service sector generated more than 50% of the economic activity in 32 counties and Aran and it is in El Barcelonès where services had a higher weight (87.4%). Industry was the main economic activity in 4 counties: La Ribera d'Ebre (72.4%), La Segarra (56.4%), La Terra Alta (48.7%) and L’Alt Camp (48.1%). Construction generated more than 10% of economic activity in La Cerdanya (14.2%), Aran (11.8%) and El Baix Empordà (10.7%). Finally, with regard to the agricultural sector, 3 counties stand out for having a much higher weight in this sector than in Catalonia as a whole (0.9%): La Noguera (19.3%), Les Garrigues (15.35) and El Pla d'Urgell (11.4%).

In 2021, of the 219 municipalities with more than 5,000 inhabitants and the rest of the county capitals, GDP per inhabitant grew in 208. Of these, Súria (58.6%) and Vandellòs i l’Hospitalet de l'Infant (58.1%) stand out.The municipalities with more than 5,000 inhabitants and other county capitals that tripled the Catalan average GDP per inhabitant (31,600 euros) are Vandellòs i l’Hospitalet de l'Infant (108,200 euros), Martorell (104,000 euros), Catellbisbal (103,900 euros) and La Canonja (95,100 euros).

By activity, the service sector generated more than 90% of economic activity in Salou, Calella, Altafulla and Tossa de Mar (93.4%, 91.7%, 91.2% and 90%, respectively), while the municipalities where the industrial sector had the greatest weight over the total activity (more than 75%) were La Canonja, Vandellòs i l’Hospitalet de l'Infant, Santa Margarida i els Monjos and Martorell.

The advanced data for 2022 for municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants show that all municipalities have a positive evolution of GDP per inhabitant compared to the previous year, led by El Prat de Llobregat.

Barcelona generated 83,415.9 million euros, a figure that represents almost a third of Catalonia's GDP (30.8%) in 2022. With a GDP per inhabitant of 51,200 euros, Barcelona was above the Catalan average (34,800 euros), along with El Prat de Llobregat (62,400 euros), Sant Cugat del Vallès (57,300 euros), Tarragona (43,700 euros), Girona (41,300 euros), Granollers (40,800 euros), Cerdanyola del Vallès (40,600 euros), Cornellà de Llobregat (39,600 euros) and Lleida (35,300 euros).
