Methodological note
This indicator is the quotient between the gross inland energy consumption and the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The gross inland consumption of energy is calculated as the sum of the gross inland consumption of five energy types: coal, oil, natural gas, renewable energy sources and electrical exchange balances. The GDP figures are taken at constant prices to avoid the impact of changes in the prices of all the goods and services generated by the economy.
This indicator measures the overall energy efficiency of an economy.
The gross inland consumption is measured in kgoe (kilogram of oil equivalent) per every 1,000 euros of the GDP at constant prices (year 2010).
