Methodological note

The severe housing deprivation rate is defined as the percentage of the population living in housing that is considered to be overcrowded, and which has at least one of the measures of housing deprivation.

Housing deprivation is a measure of substandard amenities and is calculated by taking into account households that have a room with a leaky roof, no bath/shower and no indoor toilet, or a dwelling that is considered to be too dark.
