Methodological note
The indicator measures the proportion of the total utilised agricultural area occupied by organic farming (existing and in-conversion organic cropland and permanent pasture).
In the case of both Catalonia and the European Union, the utilised agricultural area (including organic) does not include the area of forest, scrubland and wild harvesting. In the case of Spain, however, and with regard to organic utilised agricultural area, the forest area is included.
Organic area is considered to be that which is certified in accordance with the provisions of Council Regulation (EC) 834/2007 on organic production and labelling of organic products. The detailed rules for the implementation of this Regulation are laid down in Commission Regulation (EC) 889/2008.
