Methodological note

Definition of concepts

Haematopoietic progenitor
Transport of haematopoietic progenitor cell obtained not only from the bone marrow, but also from other origins (peripheral blood and umbilical chord, preferably).
Transplant
Complex medical treatment consisting of the transfer of organs, tissue or cells from one person to another. The transplanted organ is replaced and assumes the functions of the receptor's damaged organ, saving their life of improving their quality of life.

Methodological aspects

Transplants are performed of solid organs (kidney, liver, heart, lung and pancreas), of tissues (cornea, musculoskeletal tissue, vascular tissue, amniotic membrane and sclera) and haematopoietic progenitor cells.

The Catalan Transplant Organisation (OCATT) depends on the Government of Catalonia's Ministry of Health. The OCATT is responsible for planning, regulating, coordinating and evaluating activities related with the donation, extraction, conservation, distribution, exchange and transfer of organs, tissue and cells.
