Definition of concepts

Leisure education activities
Leisure education activities (camping, work camps, holiday homes, summer camps, trekking, sports clinics, sports internships or camps and sports trekking).

Methodological aspects

Leisure education denotes a set of initiatives, movements and experiences that are carried out in children's and young people's free time for pedagogical purposes outside the school curriculum and the family context.

Today, two major sectors organize leisure education activities throughout the year and during the holiday periods: the large federations, which represent Catalan education associations and include youth centres and scouts groups, and leisure education companies, a dynamic business sector that offers quality educational activities.

The Directorate General for Youth, which reports to the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Families, seeks to ensure quality leisure education in Catalonia. Regulates leisure activities with under-18s, the training of the people that lead these activities, and the youth facilities provided.

In accordance with Decree 267/2016, of 5 July, concerning educational leisure activities involving those under aged 18, with an overnight stay of two consecutive nights or more must be reported to the Directorate-General of Youth of the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Families. Activities that do not involve an overnight stay must be reported when their duration is of four or more consecutive days not counting weekend breaks.
