Definition of concepts

General goods
Goods packaged in load units (sacks, crates, boxes, etc.) or units that can be counted.
Coastal shipping
Maritime journeys in which the entry or departure of vessels is in Spanish ports.
Exterior movement of vessels
Maritime journeys in which the entry or departure of vessels is in foreign ports.

Methodological aspects

The autonomous ports of Barcelona and Tarragona provide, in their reports, statistics on the movements of boats, goods, containers, passengers and automobiles.

The Ports de la Generalitat company has responsibilities over the ports of Palamós, Vallcarca, Vilanova i la Geltrú, Sant Carles de la Ràpita and Alcanar. The total movement of all these ports is included under the name Generalitat ports.
