Methodological note

Rural tourism accommodation means establishments or dwellings providing tourist accommodation in return for payment and with or without supplementary services. These establishments usually have some specific features:

  • they are in the countryside, in towns with a population of less than 2,000 inhabitants or isolated (outside the town);
  • they are in buildings that existed before 1950, respect the architectural typology of the area and comply with the requirement for peacefulness and integration into the landscape under the conditions set for this purpose in town planning regulations;
  • they offer a limited number of beds and rooms for the accommodation of guests and meet certain basic facility and amenity requirements.

Traveller means any person who stays for one or more consecutive nights in the same accommodation.

An overnight stay is each night that a traveller stays in the rural tourism establishment.

The occupancy rate per room is the percentage relationship between the daily average of occupied rooms and the total number of available rooms in the period analysed.

You can get more information about these statistics in the methodology.
