Statistics on Hotel Activity. 08/2024

The number of overnight stays in hotel establishments in Catalonia increased by 0.9% year-over-year in August 2024, according to the Hotel Occupancy Survey. Domestic tourism overnight stays decreased by 5.1%: of these, those of Catalan travellers decreased by 3.0% and travellers from the rest of Spain decreased by 7.8% year-over-year. Foreign tourism overnight stays increased by 7.8% year-over-year.

By country of origin, tourists from France, the United Kingdom and Germany show the highest figure in overnight stays in absolute terms (1.4 million, 990.4 and 594.6 thousand, respectively), with positive year-over-year variations in United Kingdom and Germany by 11.3% and 24.5%, respectively, while in France the tourists decreased by 4.0%.

By tourism brands, Barcelona, Costa Brava and Costa Daurada were the locations that registered the highest number of overnight stays in absolute terms (2.4, 2.3 and 2.0 million, respectively) and Barcelona and Costa Brava registered positive year-over-year variations of 0.6% and 5.1%, respectively, while Costa Daurada decreased a 2.7%.

On the other hand, the number of travellers registered in hotel establishments increased by 1.3% year-over-year, with a decrease in domestic tourism by 3.4% and an increase in foreign tourism by 4.0%.
