Jan (393) was for the first time the most popular name for boys born in Catalonia in 2023, while Martina (405) was the most popular name for girls.

As for boys, second place went to Biel (387), followed by Pol (376), Nil (374) and Leo (372), while Marc was in seventh position after having topped the ranking of the most frequent boy’s baby name since 1977. As for girls, Martina (405) was the most frequent name, pushing Júlia/Julia (390), which had topped the ranking of the most frequent girl’s baby name since 2017, into second place. The third most popular name was Mia (339), followed by Emma (327) and Lucía (324).

By areas of the Territorial Plan, Leo was the most common name for boys born in the Metropolitan Area, Jan in the Girona Counties and El Penedès, Àlex in the Ponent area, Martí in the Central Counties, Pol in L'Alt Pirineu and Aran, Biel in El Camp de Tarragona and Pau in Les Terres de l'Ebre.

Martina was the most frequent name for girls born in the Metropolitan Area and Les Terres de l’Ebre, Júlia/Julia in El Camp de Tarragona, Mia in the Girona Counties and El Penedès, Aina in the Ponent area, Ona in the Central Counties and Abril in L'Alt Pirineu and Aran.
