Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 05/2024

The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia increased by 88,090 people in May 2024, which represents an increase of 2.5% compared to the same month of the previous year and stands at 3,620,080 people, according to definitive data. Contributors increased in 39 counties and in Aran, among which El Solsonès stands out, increasing by 11.4% (it is affected by the new county division), El Gironès (3.4%), El Baix Penedès (3.1%) and L'Alt Empordà (3.0%). At the other extreme, El Lluçanès and La Segarra (affected by the new county division) recorded decreases (−9.6% and −5.1%, respectively), followed by La Ribera d'Ebre (−0.4%).

In relation to April, the number of contributors increased in Catalonia as a whole by 31,190 people (0.9%). The number of contributors increased in 40 counties and Aran. The highest increases are those of El Segrià (3.7%) and El Baix Empordà (2.6%), while the only decrease is that of Solsonès (−0.1%).

By sex and compared to a year ago, in Catalonia as a whole, the number of women affiliated with Social Security increased by 45,500 and that of men by 42,585, which represents year-over-year increases of 2.7% and 2.3%, respectively.

In Catalonia as a whole, all age groups increased the number of contributors compared to a year ago, except for the 30 to 44-year-old group, which decreased by 0.1% in Catalonia as a whole. Contributors aged 55 and over are the ones that increased the most in Catalonia as a whole (5.3%), followed by those under 30 (4.7%).

Contributors of foreign nationality increased in Catalonia as a whole by 6.3% compared to the same month of the previous year, and they did so in 38 counties and Aran. Contributors of Spanish nationality increased by 1.7% in Catalonia as a whole and decreased in 4 counties.

Affiliations in the services sector increased by 2.9% year-over-year, the largest increase of all sectors, and grew throughout the territory, except in 3 counties. In the industry, affiliations increased by 1.2% in Catalonia as a whole, and they also did so in 31 counties. In the case of construction, the increase was 1.3%, and it grew in 21 counties and Aran. Agriculture also increased its affiliations, by 0.3%.

By type of working day, 19.3% of employee affiliations in May were part-time. In the case of women, the proportion is 26.2%, more than double that of men (12.4%).

With regard to temporary contracts, the proportion of Social Security affiliations for temporary employees stood at 11.2%, 1.1 percentage points less than a year before. The county with the highest level of temporary contracts is La Ribera d'Ebre (16.3%), and those with the lowest levels are El Baix Empordà (7.9%) and L'Alt Empordà (8.3%).
