Methodological note
GDP at market prices is the final result of the productive activity of resident units of production.
Gross domestic product (GDP) measures the results of economic activity and is defined as the value of all the goods and services produced minus the value of the goods and services used in creating it. GDP per person employed in Purchasing Power Standards (PPS) provides a measurement of the productivity of national economies expressed in comparison with the European Union (EU-27) equal to 100.
It should be noted that the index, calculated on the basis of the PPS and expressed with regard to the EU-27 = 100, is mostly applied in comparisons between countries than in temporal comparisons.
The purchasing power parity used in this statistic provides Eurostat's estimates. Eurostat's methodological criterion has been respected, that is, using the same purchasing parity for all the territories of the same state.
Employment covers all those people who participate in some productive activity within the production border of the national accounts. Employment includes those payable who are paid a wage or salary (those who work for another resident unit and receive remuneration) and self-employed people (business owners that are not incorporated as companies).
Data for Catalonia are calculated based on GDP and an estimate of employed persons, based on the number of jobs obtained by Idescat (Benchmark Revision 2019).
