Methodological note
Social benefits, or transfers in cash or in kind, to households and individuals with the aim to relieve them of the burden of a defined set of risks or needs as defined in the European system of integrated social protection statistics (ESSPROS). These risks and needs include the following: disability, illness/healthcare, old age, survival, family/children, unemployment, housing and social exclusion not included in any other category.
