Methodological note
The Infant mortality rate is calculated as the ratio of the total number of deaths per year of children under 1 year of age in relation to the number of live births in the same year.
The Infant mortality rate is broken down into three components: the mortality in the first month of life, or neonatal mortality, which itself is divided into early neonatal (death in the first week), and late neonatal (death between one week and one month of life). Remaining mortality, between 1 and 12 months, is considered post-neonatal mortality.
To calculate the perinatal mortality rate, the numerator consists of the stillborn and deaths of life births of less than one week, while the denominator contains the total number of births (live births and the stillborn).
As of 2012 onwards, the statistics on mortality include deaths of people residing in Catalonia which take place in other autonomous communities.
You can get more information about these statistics in the methodology.
